Hurricanes hoping for home course advantage when hosting

October 25, 2018

The Holland Hurricanes will host five other ACAA members this Saturday at the 2018 ACAA Cross Country Running Championships being held at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park at Brookvale.

The Hurricanes are looking to continue to improve and peak at the right time which was evident at their last meet on October 13 when Hurricanes runner, Hailey Shea, reached the podium for the first time this season, finishing third.

The men’s team also had a strong performance, capturing a second-place finish, ending their day just three points behind the winners, the Mount Allison Mounties.

Head coach, Andrew Dobson, is excited to be hosting the Championships again this year and is optimistic of the Hurricanes chances.

“Any time you have the opportunity to run a race on the same course you train on all season should play to your advantage. As a team we had taken the mentality of trying to improve at every single meet and to peak where it counts, at the ACAA Championships.”

The Hurricanes men’s team has their sights set on finishing well this Saturday as echoed by Hurricanes runner, Ryan Francom.

“We need to be mindful of the course, know when to take the hills and be consistent during the race. It will come down to being positive and putting in a strong effort.”

Women’s runners for the Hurricanes, Hailey Shea, Isabelle Saunders and Teanna Letkeman, will start at 12pm; the women’s race has a field of 24 competitors.

Meanwhile, the men’s team of Ryan Francom, James Wilmot, Bejamin Nwaogazi-Awuja, Agwell Francois, Chris Lomond and André Boudreau, will compete with 28 runners beginning at 1pm.

The event is free admission and open to the general public to attend.
